Tom and Jerry...
I'm starting to hate my cats(not really, but...) At 7am I give them a half a can of food. Jerry gobbles it down in minutes. Tom nibbles at it. But, Jerry sneaks back and finishes both bowls. At 9am I went to get a second cup of coffee(each cup is 3 cups, it's a large cup), and Tom followed me into the kitchen and started screaming at me as he sat next to his bowl. I noticed that both bowl were empty. So, I got another can out and gave him two thirds of a can. 11am, Toms bowl is still full. Why do I listen to him in the first place. Funny thing though, they both will never finish what is left in their bowls, and I probably will, as I usually do, throw the rest out and fill it will kibble, (dry food). Of course the bowls will be empty by the time I go to bed tonight...Cats...geez?!

I hear that Toilet water is just as tasty...Hey, I'm easy to please.
Why do I feel I am easy to please? Well, because I do.
Five years ago, I purchased a water fountain so that my
cats, Tom and Jerry could have fresh water to drink. I had a non-electric water
fountain, with a two quart reservoir. The water in that device lasted quite a
few days, but it had no filter, and Jerry, I have no idea what goes through
that cat’s mind, would scoop up, in his paw, cat food and drop it into the
water bowl. So, I had to clean it more often than not.
Anyway, I got that
water fountain working and Jerry loved it. Tom, on the other hand, about 10
years ago I took a 30 day drive across the country and back. My sister was kind
enough to spend those days, staying at my house watching over everything and
feeding the cats. For whatever reason, when I got back home, I noticed that
Tom was drinking out of the toilet. I asked my sister what happened and she
just shrugged her shoulders and said, “…water is water.”
A few months ago the pump on the water fountain died. From
time to time, I would clean the crud from around the vents to keep the pump
running. (I was watching a YouTube video the other day and found out that I
could have taken the pump completely apart to clean it out. I wish I knew that
then). That is probably the reason why it died, not cleaned enough and its
little heart (pump) couldn’t take it.
What I didn’t like about the cat water fountain, Jerry would
stick his head under the flowing water and get his head nice and wet. Then he
would come and sit on my lap. Nice. Now, with the water not flowing anymore,
Jerry continued to drink from it but I would have to clean it more often
because it seemed like the water looked grittier than normal. Plus, it had a
ton of food and cat hair in it.
Earlier on, I had checked the internet for a business that
sold the pump. At the time, I went to Amazon to check. They had a ton of pumps
but none that would fit my particular cat water fountain. I didn’t manage to
find a site in England. So, I kind of gave up. I felt as long as Jerry was
drinking water I was happy. I noticed, a week or so ago, I had closed the
toilet lid and forgotten to open it and saw Tom drinking from the cat fountain.
But as soon as I opened the toilet lid, he was back. Old
habits, apparently,
never die.
This past week I tried again looking for a pump. I figured
that it would totally cheaper to get a pump than buying a new water fountain,
considering, that when I purchased the water fountain the price was over $50!
It helped that I had had a few gift cards to bring the price down. Now, that
same fountain sells for $44. At Amazon, I found the pump that works for that
particular fountain, but of course, it was currently unavailable. And there was
another pump but reviewers were saying that they had to jury-rig the pump so
that it would fit and work.
I thought what the heck and decided to go with the company
that had one. I hate to buy from companies that I have never done business
with. But heck, for $14, plus shipping and handling…I needed that pump. Unlike
anything from Amazon, I was told that it would take 10 to 15 days to get to me.
I could wait. But, I was surprised that it only 4 days to get to me…surprise!
Anyhow, the pump is running and water is flowing. Jerry is
still sticking his head under the flow and Tom is still drinking out of the
toilet. Me, on the other hand, I felt like something wonderful was
accomplished. Walked around with my head held high, my chest sticking out, and
both thumbs up! Feeling proud that the Cat water fountain was working. Yes, I
am easy to please…as long as my cats are pleased and happy, or at least one of
them is.

Of all of the flowers there is a...Look a squirrel!!
I was sitting on my front porch today and saw a squirrel run across my neighbor's grass, trying to cross the street. He got to the curb, hesitated for a few moments and decided to run across the street as soon as a car was coming. I was thinking, this isn't going to end well and I am not going to go out into the street with a shovel and scoop up its mangled body.
Surprisingly, the car missed the big(little) dummy by inches, considering that the guy driving decided to slow down as soon as it got very close to the squirrel.
Anyway, that got me to thinking of a few squirrel encounters over my lifetime. Most of which were when I was living in a duplex in Detroit way back in the middle 90s.
The first time; this was before camera phones. I did have a camera, but I didn't feel like going and getting to film this strange squirrel. I was lying on my bed and I hear this strange noise in the backyard, mind you, behind my home was a Little Caesar's Pizza place.
So, I got up from my bed and looked out the window. climbing up the tree, backwards was a squirrel with a whole pizza in its tiny mouth! I guess the pizza was just sauce and cheese. If that is what you like, go for it.
The second time; I was sitting on my front porch drinking a Gin and Tonic, smoking a cigar, when all of a sudden I hear a muffled thud and loud, "Whoomph", the sound you make when you get the wind knocked out of you. Across the street, a squirrel had a misstep and fell out of a tree onto the sidewalk. A minute or two later, it shook itself and proceeded on its way like nothing had happened. And I am the one sitting there drinking.
The last one was kind of sad, sort of. I like cats. I've had as many as 20 cats in my lifetime. As I was sitting on my front porch, as I usually did, every day, drinking and lighting up another stogie, the neighborhood cat was bouncing by dragging a squirrel in its tiny mouth. I know that this particular cat just had kittens, a while before, and was going to feed them or herself some fresh meat. I hope it wasn't the squirrel that likes pizza. It's a cat eat squirrel world out there.

Bats, bats, everywhere...
Here's something you don't see every -- night. Early this morning, Tom, my crazy cat, was going nuts and kept running to the window and trying to get through the blinds. Something outside was causing him to flip out and destroy my blinds to find out what was going on, outside. I raised the blinds and he jumped on the ledge and as I looked up I saw as many as five or six things fly by. Silent as they flew by they happen to be bats. This went on for 10 more minutes. I have been meaning to put a bat house in my backyard for the last few years maybe I should start and get that house built, now."'via Blog this'

Does anything work around here?
I just realize why the scanner on my printer isn't working. I saw Tom, my cat, sitting on top of it looking out the window. Thanks Tom.

The fly...
It was nice and toasty, in my house, this morning. I got a roaring fire going right now. So warm there was a fly flying (a sky raisin) around in my bathroom. I was wondering why the cat was sitting there. something he doesn't do much of.
I swatted at it a few times and it flew to the floor and stayed there, much to the surprise of Jerry, the fat cat. He chased it around for a few minutes...then ate it. I heard that sky raisins were tasty for cats and he seemed to enjoy one of his favorite treats.

Happy Birthday, Tom and Jerry!
![]() |
| Two brothers -- It's a love hate relationship |
I cleaned out Jerry's
water fountain yesterday. Scrubbed it clean, changed the filter and filled it with
nice clean water. He loves it even more now, because every time I sit down he
runs and jumps in my lap and his face is soaking wet. He would rather drink
from the stream then out of the water bowl.
Not only that, since
yesterday, as clean as it is, the water is coming out harder and further out
into the water bowl, below. Now it sounds like someone taking a piss every
minute of the day! Talk about annoying! I can hear it even when I am watching
the boob tube.
I don’t have to worry
about Tom; he could care less about that $100 cat fountain. He gets his water
from the toilet. I once closed the lids and he acted like he was dying. He made
it an issue that I open his water dish so he can stay hydrated. He whines a
lot.

Anyway, October is Tom
and Jerry’s birth month. I have no real idea what day they were born. I got
them in early November and they were about 6 weeks old. So, say Happy Birthday
to my two fat cats – Tom and Jerry!

I almost blew up my house and killed my cats!
I almost blew up my house and killed my cats!
I decided I would only walk today, I didn't feel like running, and I wanted some split-pea
soup when I got back from my 5k journey around the block. So, I put a pot of
water on and a few minutes later I poured a bag of split peas into the boiling
inferno.
I turned the fire on low, on low it usually takes about 90
minutes or so for it to cook and get to that consistency I like, soupy. As I
got ready to head out, I thought I should turn the fire up, just a little, I
think it was a 2 or maybe 3 on the knob. Anyway, I put the top on it and went on
to my daily walk.
About a kilometer into my walk I started thinking, what if
that pot overflowed and the water started to spill out, that would put the fire
out and the house would fill with gas and first, kill my cats and then would
blow up when I entered the house. That thought stayed with me for a few more
minutes and then dissipated as trudged onward.
Sixty-two minutes later, as I sat on the ground, at my
garage door, I decided to go into the house and rest for a bit, shower and then
make my lunch. As soon as I entered the house, the smell of gas bellowed
through my nose. I ran to the stove and shut off the gas and then went to the
closest cat, Tom, to see if he was okay. I grabbed him and he slowly turned his
head, looked up at me and said, meow.
I then went over to Jerry and touched his head; he seemed to
be okay, too. To a small degree, I am glad left the back door wall opened. I
went around the house and turned on all of the fans and the bathroom exhaust
fans. A few moments later, I remembered to turn on the blower, on the furnace,
which also is an exhaust fan. I thought of it first, but I thought that when I
turn it on it might ignite the gas…it didn’t.
When I am at home, I have always, turn the fire on the
stove to low when I am cooking any type of beans, and I love split-pea soup, (I
never liked split-pea soup at all when I was younger). I do not know why I turned it up a
notch today. I am going to have to be a lot more careful from now on. I would
hate for something like the house burning down and losing my cats!

I laid down to take a nap, earlier today. So, I layed on my right side, unbeknownst to me my cat, Tom, would join me for his daily nap, and proceed to lay with his butt near my face...anyway, I digress. When I woke up my left shoulder was hurting as if I had laid on my left side. What's up with that? I am wired weird in my old age. Go figure.

Is that a cat or a fur ball?
"I don't get it... I brush the cat and get another cat of fur in the process. Two minutes later he jumps on my lap, I rub him and get another handful of loose fur flying all over the place. What's up with that??"

In the heat of the night...wait, what?
It getting to the end of summer and it is getting cooler,
most nights. The last two days it has gotten down into the 50s, well, last
night it was only 47 degrees. I usually keep my window open and the fan going,
also. But, last night I turned the fan on to just the No.1 setting, the lowest.
I usually have it on high, but, only because it has been the hottest summer on
record.
Of all these summer days and nights, I usually don’t see my cats,
Tom and Jerry until the morning and it’s usually just Tom. He tries to wake me
up about 6 am, my alarm goes off at 7 am. For whatever reason, I would wake up
about that time and Tom would try his best to get me out of the bed by slapping
me in my face, until I roll over and face away from his attacks. Jerry, on the
other had would sit on the floor and then jump on the bed when I throw the
cover off of me.
Yesterday, though, I got into bed about 12:20 am or so and
curled up under my blanket to end my day and fall off into dream world. Five
minutes or so later, Tom jumped onto my bed and curled up next to my legs. Two
minutes or so after that Jerry decided that he was sleeping with, on me too,
and he curled up way to close to my face.
For whatever reason he sometimes lays, face first and
usually putting his paws on my arm, digging his claws into my flesh every now
and then. Tom, on the other hand, likes to lay over the edge of the bed with
his butt near my face and tail beating my in the face.
Anyway, around two o’clock it started to get cold. Now, I
lay on my back most of the time and this time Tom decided to lay in between my
legs. That meant I couldn’t roll over without kicking him off the bed. On top
of that he was laying on the extra blanket I had covering my feet. I was just
covered with a blanket and a top sheet and I was starting to feel the cold. But,
since I didn’t want to wake that darn cat I just fell back to sleep, cold does
that to you.
This past night I thought way ahead and pulled the comforter
onto the rest of the bed. I wasn’t going to be cold this night. I again turned
on the fan and the window was opened, I do this so the cats can watch whatever
is going on all night long. Anyway, I noticed Tom sitting on the ledge looking out
of the window, not at all interested in me. As I laid there, under my three
blankets I started to get hot, even with the fan on and the window open. That
was strange.
A few minutes later I heard Tom jump down from the window
ledge and then jump onto the bed. He took his usual position, next to my legs
and curled up trying to find that heat coming off of my body. Jerry joined in a
few minutes later.
This morning I heard that it got down to 47 degrees! It’s
that time of the year where the temperature will drop day after day. Checking
the news, weather, it’s going to be in the 80s next week. Right now it’s 73,
even though it feels warmer, well warmer in the sun. It’s bright sunny day
today, Great Football weather.
It shouldn’t be to cool tonight, I just checked, only 57
degrees, not bad, unless you like laying in bad with your cats snuggles between
your legs and the other cat with its butt near your face. But, I will be warm.

Play ball...
Facebook: "I have finally seen the process...You throw the ball to the cat, the leaps for it, wrestles with the ball and then pushes it under the sofa, never to be played with again. Or until I decide to lift the sofa and take out the other 20 ball stuck under there."'via Blog this'

Box em out...
Fred Green: "I don't know why I keep trying; I put a box, a real box, out so my cats could play it it. They use to, but that box has sat empty for the last three days, they just don't want that box...While folding clothes today , I noticed that Tom decided to stay in my cloths tub until I finished and then some. Why do I spend money on my cats when they would rather have whatever they can find to play with..."

Sleeping the night away..
"Why is it that every night when I get ready for bed, I lay down, about 11:30ish and fall right to sleep with all the lights on and a cat's butt in my face. Only to wake up about 12:20 a.m. or so just to get up to brush my teeth and turn off the lights and listen to my cat yacking non-stop for a good 10 minutes. Then when I get back into to bed, I can't sleep! Last night I remember seeing 2:10 am! Oh well, no more late night coffee for me! (It was decaf, at 9:30, I love the taste of coffee!!)."
